Roof
Problems….. The pictures below show the condition of
the present church roof, with slipping tiles, broken slates and
guttering. So after many hours of deliberation
(and a little help from our circuit steward and an architect) the church
council have finally bitten the bullet and decided…..
…..To have the church re-roofed. This will be done sometime in the
summer/autumn of this year assuming that we can raise the £32,000 needed to
pay for the project. We have
permission from circuit and the O.K. from connexion to put a new roof on the
building so now all we need is to raise the money. We have asked for grants from a few
charities whose selection criteria we meet, but they will not give answers
until July/August, so we need your help.
Click here to see some of the history
of the project. The first of our grant applications has
been approved! Viridor (the landfill
operators) have given the go-ahead for £10,000 from landfill tax
rebates. We have also gained funding
from Veolia (landfill) for the purchase of the roof tiles (£10,900) and from
the George Weston Foundation (£3,000).
All that is now waited for is the final permission from Viridor, then
we hope that the contractor has not increased his quote from the one we had
that expired in September!!! There are a number of fund-raising efforts
ongoing but if you have any connection with the church and would like to give
towards the fund please contact the treasurer – all help will
be gratefully received. There will be a concert by the Staveley
& District United Choir on Saturday 18 October. Watch this space for more news as the
project progresses For general enquiries, e-mail enquiries |
